General Information

The middle school program provides a gradual transition between life in the elementary school and life in the high school, but is an experience apart from both. The Ottawa Middle School provides:

Students at the middle school level learn in a variety of different ways. Teachers use various strategies to meet the needs of all students. Hands-on classroom activities, individual and group activities, inquiry based teaching, cooperative learning, lectures, seatwork, homework, experiments, reports, and field trips are some of the strategies implemented at the middle school level.

Middle school students are exposed to various types of classes. In addition to the required courses of language arts, math, science, and social studies, there are exploratory courses students may attend. Exploratory courses include art, family and consumer science, technology, woods, keyboarding, physical education, music, chorus, beginning band, health, clothing, foods, and web page building.

The library media program at Ottawa Middle School is integrated with the regular instructional program. The library media specialist and classroom teachers work cooperatively to provide students opportunities for learning including research, analyzing and evaluating information, and to appreciate literature.

In addition to academic programs, there are a variety of extracurricular activities students may take part in as well. There is an after school program that not only offers students homework help, but opportunities to explore drama, hobbies and sports. Sports teams students may be involved in include football, basketball, and volleyball.

The opportunities available at Ottawa Middle School are the result of careful planning on the part of many groups of people - school administrators, teachers, and parents. If you have any questions about the programs offered, please contact your child's teacher and/or the administration at Ottawa Middle School.
