Spectator Guidelines

Parents and Guardians,

This week OHS will be hosting several events that are now subject to the recently passed  guidelines for spectators from the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA).  There are several things that you need to know so that you get the opportunity to watch your child compete.  Our goal is to provide an opportunity for you to be present and still keep everyone as safe as possible.  Here are some of the details that you need to know.

First, KSHSAA approved the ability for all participants to have 2 parents or guardians to attend activities.  Please notice the wording here.  Only parents or guardians may be admitted.  Family friends, siblings, peers, or other relatives are not included in who may attend these events.  The only spectators that will be allowed are those that are the legal parent or guardian of those participating.  KSHSAA als approved that the spouse of a coach may attend.  We will continue to try and live stream events so those that can't attend still have the opportunity to watch each game.

In order to track parents and guardians, OHS will have a spreadsheet at the ticket table that lists all participants in the event.  The spreadsheet will list the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) that are associated with each participant as listed in our Skyward software.  These individuals will be the only people allowed to enter under each participant's name.  As you enter the building, you will be temperature checked just like you were in the past, and you will also be asked which student you are here to watch.  Only individuals on the parent and guardian list will be allowed to enter.  Please have a photo ID with you upon entry.  The ticket system used in the fall is NOT going to be utilized  at this point for winter sports.  If you have those tickets, please hold onto them as they may be reinstated if the two person limit is lifted at the end of January.

Many of our students live in families that include step parents.  In this situation, there will be up to 4 people listed as parent / guardian on our Skyward document.  Even though up to 4 people will be listed, only 2 will be allowed per participant.  We ask that families that this applies to have conversations beforehand regarding who will be attending each night.

Some of our students also have siblings that participate.  In this situation, the same 2 parents / guardians will apply to each student.  Students may NOT have 2 parents / guardians attend for one child and 2 different parents / guardians attend for the sibling.  Each family will only be allowed 2 spectators.

Despite KSHSAA voting to allow 2 spectators per participant, we are still bound by the guidance that we have received from the Franklin County Health Department regarding spectator limits.  The only way we can allow 2 spectators per participant and follow the FCHD guidelines is if parents only come to the game in which their child is participating.  After your child's game is over, please go home.  Parents should not arrive early or stay later for games unless their child is playing or performing during that specific game.    If spectators cannot follow this guidance, we will be forced to limit spectators even more.  We want you to be able to watch your child participate.  Please help us continue to allow spectators by following this protocol.

In summary, each participant is allowed 2 parents / guardians to attend.  Bring an ID with you to the game.  Only come to the event that your child is involved in.  Please leave once your child's event is over.

OHS would like to thank you all in advance for your help with this.  We have great parents and students at OHS.  I know we will all do what is best for our students.  By following these protocols, we can keep our kids playing and our parents watching.   Questions can be directed to Shawn Phillips, Activities Director at OHS via email at:  phillipss@usd290.org

Thank you.
