Mrs. Coen nominated Olivia Slemp saying, "Olivia works really hard in the Culinary Classroom. She is a steady, calm presence, always on task, always participating, and always trying her best. She does not allow herself to get mixed up in drama and focuses on the importance of her school work."

Xavier Richardson

Xavier Richardson

Mrs Gearhart nominated Xavier Richardson saying, "Xavier has been awesome at helping the counseling department get the PAC setup for 8th grade visits. He is reliable and knowledgeable about the technology we have at OHS. Xavier gave great advice when guiding 8th grade students on tours around OHS. Xavier even helped improve the atmosphere by adding music when 8th grade students entered the PAC. I appreciate his willingness to help!"

Aiden Demoret

Mr. Wallace nominated Aiden Demoret saying, "Aiden is usually the first one to class 1st hour and we have had time to talk. Beside being a great student, he is very mature, motivated to do well, and is serious about being successful. He is working at a bank now and has been able to help out during our discussions about the banking services that are available. He is thinking about attending KSU, which is also a good thing."

Mr. Deane nominated Trenton Martinez saying, "Trenton has on multiple occasions escorted a classmate to the nurse's office when there was a serious need. I appreciate his immediate and unconditional willingness to help a friend, and to be serious when the situation needs to be serious. I think he serves as an example to others that when the occasion rises, you rise to the occasion."

Mr. Lohse nominated Ava Nourzaee saying, "Last week, Ava stepped in to help cover an event for the yearbook even though she's not a member of the yearbook staff." Stepping up to help when there is a need is an amazing way to serve our Cyclone community!

Mrs. Waymire nominated Ashtyn Finch saying, "When a child was sitting alone and there was an open spot, Ashtyn invited her to sit by her. This child is not typically a kiddo that other kids actively seek out interaction with," so Ashtyn's compassion and empathy toward this student was exactly what being a Cyclone is all about!

Mr. Strube and Mrs. Buxton both nominated Justus Bishop saying, "While I do not have Justus in class, I get to interact with him every day. He is always friendly and willing to share his school experience and how far he's come since his freshman year," (Strube) and, "I am nominating Justus for his overall positive attitude lately--As senior stress is rising, Justus has kept a great attitude and worked collaboratively with those pushing him toward the finish line. He has shown great growth and I am proud of him!" (Buxton).

Mrs. Coen nominated Chris Smith saying, "Chris has grown so much this past year in being a team player and understanding selfless giving. He is my go-to person on Mobile Food Pantry days. He is willing to do anything I ask and has watched and learned to know what needs to be done without being asked. He always has a positive attitude and does his best work helping others."

Mrs. Coen nominated Jaykub Harreld saying, "Jaykub really stepped out of his comfort zone in the FCCLA Culinary Competition. He worked very hard honing his knife skills and cooking skills to produce a gourmet meal in 60 minutes. When we went to the competition it was delayed and Jaykub had to wait and was so very patient for 6 hours until he was finally able to compete. I was so very proud of how he conducted himself and showed his positive spirit.

Mr. Boeh and Mr. Johansen highlighted Brandon's friendliness, teamwork, strong moral character, and determination as their reason for nominating him.

She is involved in many activities and volunteers to help out at events. Danya works hard to achieve academic excellence and challenges herself to take advanced courses. She does a great job balancing school, extracurricular activities, and personal life."

She is always on task, friendly and helpful to her classmates. She has a strong intrinsic drive to better herself and others at OHS. Keep up the great work, Karrington!!"

Mrs. Soph nominated Abby Pitts saying, "Abby has checked out and read over 360 books in her two years here at OHS -- 250 this year alone! She gives me her honest reviews and also recommends titles for me to add to our collection. I so appreciate her love of reading!"

Mrs. Tharp nominated Ethan Armstrong saying, "Ethan is always willing to help pick up any trash in the South Gym during Cyclone Hour. Many times he will pick up the items as he is walking around the gym without being asked. Ethan is always pleasant in our interactions, and when I ask him to pick up what is left by his peers. He has a positive attitude about keeping our school looking good along with helping the custodians during Cyclone Hour. I truly appreciate the times that I get to observe Ethan showing his leadership and pride for OHS!"

Ms. Lilley nominated Zoe Todd saying, "I appreciate the fact that Zoe persevered in her Solder Safety Test. She was one of the first to jump in and use the soldering station. This was not an easy feat considering some Metals students are intimidated by fire from the torches."

Ms. Seurer nominated Bryce Crowley saying, "My projector was not working quite correctly and Bryce volunteered to fix it. Not only did he accomplish this, but he absolutely knew what he was doing, so it was fun to witness such intelligence! Bryce is a very kind student and I appreciate his kindness toward me and others each and every day!"

She is enrolled in multiple college courses and does an excellent job keeping up with her assignments while juggling all the activities she participates in at OHS. Gabby is the definition of academic excellence, someone students should strive to be like!"

Ms. Lilley nominated Emma Cain saying, "Emma has been in several of my 3D art classes and already she has developed a strong work ethic. She gives it her all on whatever project I throw at her, and ultimately wants to learn. She has spent much of her Cyclone Hour time working on assignments in my class. Aside from academics, Emma has a helpful attitude towards me and her fellow classmates. She is always willing to lend a hand."

Mrs. Whittaker nominated Jesse Brown saying, "Jesse is a true leader at Ottawa High School. He is always willing to volunteer when we need assistance around the school. Recently, Jesse gave tours to prospective English teacher candidates. Each candidate raved about how passionate Jesse feels about OHS and what a wonderful job he did during the tours!"

Mr. Boeh and Mr. Miesner nominated Ashton McCurdy saying, "Ashton works out every day with a positive attitude and enthusiasm in the class. He also was the winning participant in the Cyclone World Tag Games. Ashton loves being around his classmates as well as competing against them."

He's unafraid to try something new and outside of his comfort zone." Teagan displays grit, determination, and perseverance in Ms. Lilley's Metals II class.

One of her greatest attributes is her willingness to help others when they encounter a problem. She will research a couple of ideas and then in the most pleasant way suggest a few ideas that almost always fixes the problem."

Max quietly listens during discussions, but is always ready to provide thoughtful insight into group discussions. Students value Max's opinions and insight into concepts in US History and willingly welcome Max's knowledge in their group."

Mr. Strube also nominated Erin Livingston saying, "Erin is a fantastic student. She is always a positive presence in class. Through her involvement in school activities and how she handles herself in class, she promotes a welcoming and inclusive school environment."

Mrs. Whittaker nominated Jaedyn Yohe saying, "Jaedyn is a senior at Ottawa High School. Since completing her college online course through Allen Community College early, she has taken initiative to help an underclassman by tutoring him every day during her 5th period. Most students her age would have enjoyed having the extra hour to relax, but not Jaedyn. Her efforts have been greatly beneficial to that student!"

Mrs. Whittaker also nominated Olivia Runnells saying, "Olivia is a junior at Ottawa High School. Olivia is extremely involved in our theatre, choir, and Renaissance programs. She not only always has a smile on her face, but is actively participating and volunteering at school. Her efforts are noticed and appreciated as she strives to make OHS a GREAT place to be!"

I appreciate her depth of thought and her willingness to consider new ideas. I appreciate her willingness to come and talk with me about a myriad of topics. She is positive and kind and a very well-rounded student."

Mrs. Kane nominated Addy Brown saying, "Addyson always seems to have a smile on her face and a willingness to help. She is involved in a wide variety of clubs and activities at OHS and is always looking for ways to serve others, while also staying committed to academic excellence. Addyson has jumped right in to helping with the REnaissance Elementary Food Drive, unloading, packing, and counting food and bringing friends with her. She is a great example of making leadership about celebrating and including others!"

During group work, Jesse is always motivating his group members to achieve the objectives of the activity we are participating in."

She works very hard to maintain the highest level of learning that she can. Even when classes become a bit more complicated, she works through the issue and has no problem seeking out other resources. I can witness Lilly's thoughtfulness and compassion toward her classmates on a daily basis in the classroom and in the hallways."

In Young Adult Lit, she is a true leader of discussion. She is more than prepared for discussions and always tries to get all of her peers involved. She is that student that I take my crazy ideas to for her feedback because I truly value her opinion. She always gives 200% to all of the assignments I give in both Comp and YAL. I consider myself lucky to have her in class this year."

She always goes above and beyond each challenge whether it's putting up displays or running errands. She has set a high bar for what I'm looking for in a student aide after she leaves."

Mrs. Seurer nominated Victoria Coemans and said, " Victoria is not only new to OHS, but to this country and we are so lucky to have her! She already has been a positive influence to this school. She is kind and always smiling which is super infectious! She treats all her peers with respect and understanding! In addition, she has transitioned well to her learning. Although not always easy, Victoria works really hard to understand her academics and exceed. She has no problem asking for help when she needs it, which is courageous, especially in a new school!"

Mrs. Coen nominated Tristan Uht and said, "I have Tristan for two Culinary classes and he is such a positive spot in the day.  He is always asking what he can do to help me and the other students and actually follows through and does things. He is excited to be in class, asks further questions or adds his own thoughts and experiences that adds to the conversation."

Mrs. Kane nominated Hali Gillaspie saying, "Hali always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She jumped right in to wanting to help create a positive climate and culture at OHS, asking if she could help with Core Council and bringing three other freshmen to our first meeting! She is also quick to see ways she can help others and take initiative to assist. She stayed after school one evening on her own accord to help hang things in my classroom and regularly asks if there is anything else she can do for myself or others."

Ja'Veon Shepherd

Mrs. Stinebaugh nominated Ja'Veon Shepherd saying, "Ja'Veon is new to OHS and has shown me his determination and pursuit of rigor in just the short amount of time I have known him. I am so proud of him for choosing to take on challenges, like Anatomy and Physiology, even though it is not required of him or needed for his future beyond high school. When others steer clear of taking difficult classes, he welcomes it and has met the opportunity with a smile each and every day. I am so glad my path has crossed with his!"
